***UPDATED NEWS IS INDICATED BY AN ARROW -  SEPTEMBER 2010***

THE 7TH AND FINALSEGMENT:

I finally completed this build of the absolute whole system that once was Glasgow Corporation Tramways by the start of 2009 but tinkered about with it making some scenic changes. It covers in Trainz some 244 boards and has been a labour of love for someone like me who from a wee boy loved everything about the Glasgow trams. I live in Knightswood these days but as a wee laddie I hailed from Whiteinch and my 2nd floor tenement bedroom window looked down on a main tramway that hosted 6 tram routes. I travelled everywhere by tram and when my  late mother an ex-clippie, took me into the city centre it was always of course by tram, never bus. When I started work in a city office at 15, I delivered letters etc by tram where I could. The Coronation trams were the jinkies. They seemed so modern, cumfier seats, a joy to travel in - fast and warm with subdued lighting, etc. The wee single decker formerly used on the Duntocher line due to gradients and now in the Transport Museum was used around 1960 for shipyard workers as an extra. Fortunately, I seen it one evening around 5pm coming from the Partick Depot and had the privilege of being on the only single decker left in the then fleet.  Before that I hadn't been aware of one. Every time I see it sitting in the museum I am reminded that i actually got to travel on it - well to Whiteinch anyway!

FINAL SCENERY ALTERATIONS PROGRESS:

Street scenery changes have been made during September 2010. I feel it is now time before the end of 2010 for Trainz tram fans to sample this project and appreciate like I do what Glasgow lost all those years ago.

FOR AURAN TRAINZ SIMULATOR FANS:

I have given a copy of the project to a tram fan who recently bought TRS2006 when he found someone had actually tackled the impossible - the Glasgow Tramway! Luckily he lives not far so a car journey has now got him a chance to drive around the Glasgow he recalls that was very much a tram city.

ADDITIONAL EXTRA FOR FANS:

In 1948 two new extenstion routes were planned some 14 years before the abandonment. I have added one of them. Although planned and never built i decided to do one of them. This was the extension that was to be added to the 30 route terminus at Blairdardie. This was to continue along the Gt Wetsren Rd or "Bouelvard" as locally known and join the Clydebank-Duntocher Line at Hardgate.  Eventually this was to have replaced the former route but as said never happened. i have built this as it would have looked aroun late fifties into 1960, The other was off Anniesland Rd and the No 1 route along Alderman Rd in South Knightswood as far as Dyke Rd.  Unfortunatelt due to my mistake I don't have room to add that one.

TO MY KNOWLEDGE:

This is the only tramway simulator as far as I am aware that covers a whole city system (as it was) and based on fact not a mythical route.  Someone is now building the Melbourne tramway which may be bigger I don't know. For Trainz users I should state that this build is an exceedingly large one and you should be made aware of this when it comes to your pc graphics - it is intensive in places.. There will be literally hours and hours of exploring the city. Unfortunately where I could not ascertain the building geography of the late 50's and to 1962 when the Glasgow Tramway was finally sadly closed, I have resorted to some input from modern times. However the lines are going through where they actually were.

I loved the Glasgow Tramway, it's different tramcars and everything about them. Just couldn't bear joining the 250,000 who turned out on a heavy rain night to watch the final procession. Subsequently having to watch the track being dug up was as bad. I am going to try again to get this into our Transport Museum when i get a video or two on to this site as my tribute to the second largest tramway that existed outside London. I hope I have done it justice because thius was a very long and trying labour of love for a former wee boy who wanted to be a tram driver.......

Trams out of the past...............transport of the future
